Civil society organizations, interest comprising of Women and youth from different political parties urged Governor of Adamawa, Rt Hon Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri to include more women and Youths in his administration.
The groups in their earlier convergence 18th and 20th of May,2019 where the seek the opinions of women,and youth on the impact of government policies,programs on service delivery in their lives,and level of participation in governance.
The group with the support of international Republic institute (IRI) during a press conference made some specific requests to Governor Fintiri to include:
“Government should increase the number of women and youth appointed as commissioners,senior special advisers, Executive secretaries, caretakers and Heads of parastatals and agencies in your administration based on merit.
” Government should initiate and implement policies and programs on service delivery issues especially education, health, security water and sanitation that affect women and youth directly.
“Support bills that protect and promote the rights of women, youth and persons with disability.
“Provide funds for mobilisation and capacity building for women through the ministry of women,youth and sport affairs.”
While addressing Journalists on behalf of the groups at the IRI office in Yola,the Member representing Demsa constituency in the Adamawa State House of Assembly (ADHA),Hon Mamuno Kate Raymond said they are urging the government of Fintiri to provide basic amenities and services for internally Displaced persons to meet their socioeconomic well being.
“Government should increase security measures to protect vulnerable communities from insurgency and other security threats which mostly affects women and children thereby increasing their poor economic conditions.” Kate said
Raymond who is the only woman legislator in ADHA however commended Fintiri on the free education and school feeding policy for public in primary and secondary schools in the state.
IRI whose main idea is to support the creation of women and youth advocacy groups with the full funding and support by USAID bags the groups in Adamawa to advocates for the participation in the electoral and political process in the state.
