In what could be described as a growing concern and grave disregard for the national leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Barr. Mary Ekpere, a former aspirant of the Cross River Central Senatorial seat who has gone ahead with litigation to the Supreme Court is a gamble taken too far.
It will be recalled that the leader of APC and President-elect, His Excellency, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu had on December 20, 2022, during a town hall meeting held in Calabar appealed to Barr. Mary Ekpere and other aggrieved aspirants dropped all court cases for the sake of peace and unity of the party, yet just 10 days later, 30th Day of December 2022, Barr. Ekpere ignored Tinubu’s appeal to file a fresh suit even when equally aggrieved, former Governorship aspirant, Sen. John Owan Enoh had gone ahead to withdraw from the court.
After losing the rerun Primaries, Mary Ekpere proceeded with the initial case to the Court of Appeal. A few days before the Senatorial elections, on February 13th, a definite judgment was given in favour of the APC Senatorial candidate and now Senator-elect, Rt. Hon. Eteng Jonah Williams.
Mary Ekpere again dissatisfied with the decision of the court of appeal had gone ahead to appeal the matter at the Supreme Court.
This, therefore, described her actions as a blatant disregard for the President-Elect and the national leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) who have made several efforts to intervene and handle an internal party affair. This breeding indiscipline of Barr. Mary Ekpere with intentions to squander the fortunes of the party should be called to order forthwith.
