A struggle to create a new state call Gurara out of the present day Kaduna state has been a long age perturbation of the people of Southern Kaduna who generally seen and refer to as the Minority. It is an agitation base on the vast number of people dwelling together as one entity bound together in unity and in love. Considering the vast land occupied by the Gurarans and the population that numbering to over 3 million and the struggle of freedom for the sole aim of development pushed the entire people of southern Kaduna to agitate for a state. According to a communiqué recently released by one of the stake holder of southern Kaduna Dr Bawa Magaji complaining of how the north marginalized the south of Kaduna state.
“we are denied of our right, they force us to discovered that we are no longer one as is seen before, the entire country operate on quarter system but Jobs that quarterly belong to us are no longer there for us, admission of professional courses to our sons and daughters has almost became a mirage, they made our children’s dreams unrealizable a futile that they deliberately infused on us not to have a focus and they turned us to be slave doing all the work without a recourse for a bigger benefit”
A Southern Kaduna son and a long serving member of House of Representative Mr Geofrey Gaiya has made a stand to say that; Southern Kaduna is matured to stand alone, ready to operate without being under the dictates of any one. Saying that those considered to be power brokers don’t even have the wherewithal power to stop the agitation of southern Kaduna people
“As long as we exist we will continue with the agitation because the agitation is genuine, in right direction, it is the desire of the people and I feel that in terms of historical background and creating state for development we have the right to want to demand for our state. If you are talking about creating a state that can sustain itself we have the right to demand. I believe that every perimeter or condition you will set aside to decide whether Gurara state should be created or not, I’m sure if you set aside ten conditions we are sure of meeting up at least eight conditions if not the ten. From every angle you look at it Gurara state is a genuine demand. We are not unmindful that no matter how difficult the conditions may be in the constitution tomorrow we don’t want the outcome of the amendment that is going on, it can be ‘watered down’ to accommodate the creation of additional states. We don’t know the outcome of the National Conference it may be ‘watered down’ to recommend creation of additional states, so we have hope. There is popular saying ‘once there is life there is hope’ therefore, the people of southern Kaduna still have hope that if tomorrow the right things could be done and if states would be created based on desirability and qualification for sure we will get it. So, we will not give up, that the constitutional requirements are a bit difficult or that the proposed constitutional amendment by the National Assembly does not seem to favour states creation is not a closed-door. For me anything human ‘cannot be over until is over”.Geofey Gaiya sa People from the Southern part of Kaduna State, under the aegis of the Southern Kaduna People’s Union, besieged the Senate on Thursday and demanded the creation of Gurara state out of the present Kaduna State with Kachia as the capital.
My people is a struggle worthwhile, a noble one, let’s make the noise,lets make the call a clarion one and let’s go the struggle without fear or favor. We are due for it and I think we should make it a struggle to dead.
