The Academic Staff Union of the College of Agriculture (ASUCA) in Taraba State has been charged to contribute meaningfully towards restoring the lost glory of the College of Agriculture (COA), Jalingo, the Taraba State capital.
Engnr. Prof. Nicholas Namessan, Lecturer, Taraba State University (TSU) made the assertion during the unveiling and launching of the Institution’s ASUCA maiden Journal held at the Conference Hall of the College of Agriculture, Jalingo.
Namessan, who doubles as the Chairman of the occasion said it is imperative for Lecturers to consider the use of technology to enhance self sufficiency.
He charged ASUCA members to rise to the challenges of innovation, for the interest of economic growth of the College stressing that they should not always depend on Government at all times.
“We have received so much trainings, we can turn things around, and that is why we are intellectuals”,
“We can always walk backwards, and know how we can solve the problems because we have the resources”, he said
He recalled that there was a time when the College had Poultry Farms, Active Forestry Department and Horticulture.
Prof. Nemisan mentioned the establishment of communication through research work, among others describing them as reasons behind publishing the academic Journal.
In his remarks, the Provost of the College, Dr. Yakubu Garjila lauded ASUCA for impacting positively on the College and for coming out with such an impressive Journal.
Garjila further reminded members that as an Academia, their primary aim should be on productive research.
Also speaking, the Chairman, Academic Staff Union of College of Agriculture (ASUCA), Dr. Williams Benedict said the programme was aimed at unveiling the first edition of a Journal put together by ASUCA.
His words; “the task of compounding and publishing the Journal was enormous”,
“We are here to unveil the first edition of our Journal, we are here also to commission the three Stores erected in the College”,
While calling on members of Staff of the College to help and support ASUCA project in the College, Dr. Williams maintained that sustaining the Journal is very vital.
He however, thanked ASUCA members for producing the Journal by using their individual resources.
