…Conveys House Speaker’s Condolences on the Outbreak of the Coronavirus in Parts of China to Officials of the Chinese Embassy.
Chairman, House Committee on Foreign Affairs, Rt. Hon. Yusuf Buba Yakub ,has joined billions of well-wishers across the world to celebrate the Chinese New Year as it unfolded for the Asian Tiger late this week.
Speaking at a ceremony to declare open the New Year in Abuja ,Saturday,at the Chinese Cultural. Center,Hon. Buba said it was a thing of joy to witness the end of one year and the beginning of another. He congratulated the Government and the people of China on the opening of the New Year tagged the Year of the Rat. He expressed the hope that the New Year would usher in better things,especially, in the area of friendship and co- operation that exist between Nigeria and China.
In a statement signed by his special Adviser on public affairs, Mr Nkem Anyata- Lafia said Buba used the opportunity to convey to officials of the Chinese Embassy the deep condolences of the Speaker, House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila and the entire Green Chambers of Nigeria’s National Assembly on the outbreak of the coronavirus in Wuhan and other parts of China.
In his words:
” Speaker Gbajabiamila also expresses optimism that the surge in the spread of the virus would soon be contained and has asked me to convey to your Government and people our deep condolences. In fact,the House stands with the people of China in these trying moments. Our hearts go out to families and those who have lost loved ones to the disease in the past few weeks. Given the efforts we have seen and the solidarity that the world has offered to China in the fight against this virus, we know that it will soon be a thing of the past,”the lawmaker concluded.
Among those who joined Buba to the occasion were some officials and members of the House Committee on Foreign Affairs , including Hon. Aderogbe Oluwatimehin and others,who were received by the Chinese Cultural Attaché and other officials of the Chinese community in Abuja,who attended the glamorous event that witnessed cultural displays ,presentation of gifts to school pupils and media parleys.
