Barrister Nyesom Wike has traversed the grim Nigerian political space and imbibed so much bile, venom and vitriol. He had both thrills and jolly good time but the tide is fast turning against him with trials and tribulations that might consign him to the dustbin of history, especially with his self-inflicted existential threats.
The law of Karma is taking its toll on him as it is now payback time, the era of retribution and exacting a pound of flesh as demonstrated by Wike’s own megalomaniacal song: “as e pain dem, e sweet us; as e sweet us, e pain dem.”
Nigerians are keenly watching Honorable Wike reel in pain as he tries to explain and extricate himself from the conflagration he ignited in Rivers State that is set to consume him. There are danger signals for the immediate past governor of Rivers State.
During the 2023 general elections, Honorable Wike played duplicitous game; he was both a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governor in Rivers State and a stalwart of the All Progressives Congress in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
Apart from his alleged treacherous roles in the elections where he incurred the wraths of both the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and All Progressives Congress leaders in Rivers State. The current conflict engulfing him and his Godson, Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State, is set to whittle down Hon.
Nyesom Wike’s powers and deprive him of the enormous influence he hitherto wielded in his home state. His political future is therefore in jeopardy, uncertain, and bleak unless there is divine intervention.
Meanwhile, Hon. Nyesom Wike has suddenly fallen from the high horse of political glory to the deepest depths of political ignominy. If he fails to guard his words and deeds and continues with his brash ways in the FCT, he’ll be confronted and confounded by an avalanche of opposition and protests that he has never seen in his political life.
Abuja is a hot spot of power games; it’s unlike Port Harcourt. He saw the tip of the iceberg with the initial confrontations and antagonisms he encountered recently on assumption of office in Abuja. It is therefore significant to review the circumstances that led to the FCT Minister’s sudden fall from grace to grass.
Hon. Nyesom Wike is a controversial Nigerian politician. Within the past few decades, he worked strenuously and was compensated with exalted political offices as he traversed the three tiers of government from the local to the national level. In chronological order, he was chairman of the richest Local Government Council (LGC) in Nigeria, Obio/Akpor in Rivers State, and was National President of ALGON; he was in the Government House Port Harcourt as Chief of Staff to Governor Rotimi Amaechi; he served both as Minister of State and substantive Minister of Education under President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan; he was governor of rivers State from May 29th, 2015-May 29th, 2023, under President Muhammadu Buhari, and, currently, he is the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
