Football fever has gripped Hong Local Government Area as the much-anticipated 7th edition of the Engr. Musa Nimrod Under-20 Male Football Competition officially kicked off, bringing together vibrant young talents from all 12 wards in a thrilling display of grassroots soccer.

The annual championship, organized by the Youth Sports Federation of Nigeria (YSFON) Adamawa State Chapter and solely sponsored by the renowned philanthropist, sports developer, and President of the Nigeria Volleyball Federation (NVBF), Engr. Musa Nimrod, continues to serve as a vital platform for discovering and nurturing hidden football gems in the region.
Speaking on the occasion, Engr. Musa Nimrod expressed deep satisfaction with the initiative’s impact over the past six years.
”We are happy doing this,” he said. “No fewer than 10 players have been discovered from this championship since we started it, and they are doing exceptionally well in our National League, with some even securing slots in foreign clubs.”
He expressed optimism that this year’s edition would unearth even more talents ready to elevate their game to national and international levels.
The competition, which spans one week of intense action, features 12 competitive teams representing each ward in Hong LGA, all vying for top honours. Defending champions Shangui Ward, who lifted the trophy in the last edition, will face stiff challenges from other wards determined to claim glory on home soil.
A major highlight this year is the venue upgrade: matches will unfold on the newly constructed mini stadium in Hong, a facility that promises enhanced playing conditions.
Mr. Abdulgafar Agbola, Technical Director of YSFON, hailed the development, stating, “I believe, with this standard football pitch, we are going to have quality play throughout the competition.”
He assured fans of professional officiating, confirming that match officials are fully prepared and on ground to deliver fair and high-standard refereeing.
Engr. Musa Nimrod’s unwavering commitment has made this tournament a cornerstone of youth empowerment in Adamawa. Over the years, the initiative has not only spotlighted raw talent but also promoted discipline, teamwork, and community unity among the youth. By providing a structured pathway from local wards to bigger stages, it addresses the critical need for talent scouting and development in underserved areas.
As the tournament unfolds amid cheers from excited spectators, football enthusiasts in Hong and beyond are optimistic about witnessing breakout performances that could propel local boys toward professional careers.
With Engr. Nimrod’s sustained sponsorship and YSFON’s organizational expertise, the 7th edition is set to be the most exciting yet—proving once again that grassroots investment is the true foundation of Nigeria’s football future.
The competition promises non-stop action, fierce rivalries, and unforgettable moments as Hong’s young stars chase glory on the pristine new pitch.
