Hoodlums loot Oyo senator’s home, cart away 300 motorcycles, freezers, others

Hoodlums on Saturday invaded the Ibadan home of the lawmaker representing Oyo Central in the National Assembly, Senator Teslim Folarin, carting away brand new motorcycles, freezers, grinding machines and other items.

The lawmaker is said to have travelled out of the country.

An aide to the senator, who preferred anonymity, said about N250 million worth of empowerment items were stolen from the house.

He said, “I can confirm to you that senator Folarin’s house in Oluyole estate area of Ibadan was invaded this morning by hoodlums.

“They took away items worth N250 million. It was daylight robbery. We could not engage them so they had a field day. The senator was not at the property when the looting happened. It is sad this is happening.”

The invasion of Folarin’s home is the latest in a series of looting of properties across the country.

Suspected hoodlums have targeted homes of influential persons — including monarchs — and warehouses where COVID-19 palliatives are kept.

Palace of the Soun of Ogbomoso was vandalised on October 11, 2020, during the #EndSARS protest.

On Friday, a warehouse where COVID-19 palliatives were kept in Ibadan was looted by hoodlums, with more than 1,000 bags of rice stolen.

But the Oyo government, in a statement, said the warehouse and items looted belonged to a private company.

Police on Saturday used teargas to disperse a mob attempting to break into the Arts and Culture Centre in the Garki District of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.

The arts centre is located at Area 10, Garki. The area is home to print businesses, barber shops and restaurants.

It was learnt that a mob in the city assumed that COVID-19 relief materials were stored at the arts centre.

At the height of the pandemic, the Federal Capital Territory Administration used the arts centre to store COVID-19 relief materials.

The relief materials such as bags of rice, beans and cartons of noodles were distributed to the various area councils from there.

But it could not be confirmed if the arts centre still stores relief materials.

The development is coming after some residents looted COVID-19 materials in Lagos, Osun, Kwara and Cross River states.
