Kwara State Fire Service said a man, whose name it did not mention, set his own house on fire due to frustration.
A statement on Monday by Mr Hassan Adekunle, the spokesman for the Director of Kwara State Fire Service, Falade Olumuyiwa, said the incident occurred on Sunday at Lekki Phase One in the Eyenkorin area of Ilorin, the state capital.
According to Adekunle, the man claimed he deliberately sprayed the three-bedroom building with petrol and set it on fire because of a high level of frustration from his wife.
Adekunle explained that the fire could have left the building completely in ruins but for a resident in the area who promptly alerted the fire service about the incident.
he further said that a swift response of personnel of the fire service brought the ravaging fire under control and prevented it from spreading to other buildings in the area.
In his reaction, Olumuyiwa urged residents of the state to be more vigilant in their homes, offices, and wherever they may find themselves.
