The dramatic downfall of Hudu Yunusa Ari, a former Resident Electoral Commissioner, has sent shockwaves throughout Nigeria. According to Solomon Kumangar, Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri’s aid, INEC’s decision to dismiss Ari is a testament to the power of retributive justice.
After a long and tumultuous process, Ari’s actions during the Adamawa governorship election finally caught up with him. His dismissal is a clear indication that INEC is committed to discipline and accountability, and that those who undermine the electoral process will be held accountable.
Ari’s response to his dismissal has been nothing short of astonishing. Despite being urged by his “mafia empire” to seek justice in a court of competent jurisdiction, he claimed that his dismissal is “not my problem.” This statement has left many wondering what could have driven him to make such a bold claim. Whatever the reason, it’s clear that Ari’s actions have consequences, and he may soon find himself facing a jail term if found guilty.
Kumangar noted that Ari’s actions were a blatant disregard for the Universal legal procedure and statues of Democratic Electoral protocols. His decision to announce the result of the election from a handwritten piece of paper was a brazen attempt to subvert the electoral process. It’s unimaginable that a lawyer and former legislator could drift so far from the principles of justice and democracy.
