The City of Jos, Plateau State, our correspondent monitored, are empty Streets from the busy Ahmadu Bello way, Bauchi road to Hillcrest junction as the result of the Hunger protest some Nigerian youth have planned to do today.
The Protest is seen to be low-key as only a handful of Civil Society organizations (CSOs) were gathered in front of HB Bank of the Ahmadu Bello Way, playing the music of the legendary activist Fela Anikulapo Kuti, to have a world press conference.
The CSOs few in number are Project Sprint, CYPA Africa, LNK247, and others gathered as citizens coalition against #badgovernment and injustice in Nigeria.
A senior citizen who is close by watching the merriment of the Youth identified himself as Pa Andrew Gyanpa and said the Young people are just wasting their time.
According to him, they are hired to do the protest and collected stipends to disorganize the peaceful nature of the state.
He revealed that the proposed protest ought to be a general public outcry of the current situation of the country where old and young men and women will storm the streets of Plateau State in annoyance.
He admitted that the government has frustrated the efforts of the protesters, and the impact is less felt.
He, however, called on the government of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to take note of what is happening today as seriously as he can take it.
He said Nigerians are not joking this time around and let today be a clue that his government is derailing from the policies that will touch the lives of the citizens.
“The protest is supposed not to be a civil society protest; it ought to be a protest by all Nigerians; these are only hired by interested parties to Play along. As you can see, the streets are empty, and no one is willing to join.
“Will you protest when there’s hunger in your stomach? Will you protest when you are mentally sick because of the bad economy? As for me, the protest is time-consuming and ineffective. I pray the government will listen with this little show of grievances.” Gyanpa Said
