Governor Hyacinth Alia of Benue State has firmly dismissed rumors of his alleged defection from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the Social Democratic Party (SDP), labeling the claims as baseless fabrications peddled by detractors intent on destabilizing the state.
Speaking during a media chat at the State House in Makurdi on Thursday, April 10, 2025, the governor emphasized his unwavering loyalty to the APC and his dedication to the progress of Benue State.
Reflecting on his tenure, Governor Alia noted that by May 2025, he will have served two years in office, with six more years remaining in his term.
“I remain a leader of the APC in Benue State, and I’m not going to decamp,” he declared, addressing speculations that have circulated in recent weeks. He attributed the rumors to “thugs who want the state to go down the dungeon,” urging citizens to disregard such misinformation and focus on the collective goal of development.

The governor also took the opportunity to clarify his relationship with George Akume, a prominent figure in the state and the nation. “I have no problem with George Akume; he is a statesman,” Alia stated, dispelling any notions of discord between the two leaders. He reiterated his commitment to fostering unity among stakeholders for the betterment of Benue State.
Governor Alia’s administration has been marked by efforts to address pressing issues such as security, infrastructure, and economic development. With six years left in his tenure, he expressed optimism about achieving his vision for the state, promising to continue working tirelessly for its people.
