Adamawa State Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri has declared that he has the right to choose and anoint his preferred successor, stating that he will publicly reveal the candidate by next week.

Speaking on the political succession in the state, Governor Fintiri emphasised his determination to ensure that the best person succeeds him as governor.
“I have the right to anoint my candidate, and by next week I will make him known,” the governor said.
He issued a strong warning against anyone who would cause suffering to the people of Adamawa, declaring his readiness to confront such individuals.
“Anybody who puts pains on my people, I will fight him,” Fintiri stated. “At this moment, I will take my decision as the Governor of the State to ensure the best succeeds me. Not even the threat of persecution [will deter me]. I am fully ready and prepared to put my life and blood for this state to succeed.”
The governor’s comments come amid growing political activities and speculations ahead of the next gubernatorial election in Adamawa State. He stressed that his primary concern is the continued progress and wellbeing of the state, positioning his choice of successor as a critical step towards sustaining development.
Governor Fintiri, who has been in office since 2019, has often highlighted his administration’s achievements in infrastructure, education, healthcare, and security, and appears determined to hand over to a candidate aligned with his vision for the state.
Political analysts believe the announcement of his anointed candidate next week could significantly shape the political landscape in Adamawa and influence the strategies of other aspirants within the ruling party and the opposition.
More details are expected to emerge in the coming days as the governor prepares to formally present his choice to the people of Adamawa.
