‎“I Investigated Pastor Jerry Eze for Six Months Over Money Laundering” — EFCC Boss

‎In a surprising disclosure at the Jerry Eze Foundation’s business grant award ceremony, the Executive Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Mr. Ola Olukoyede, openly revealed that his agency conducted an intensive six-month investigation into popular televangelist Pastor Jerry Eze over suspicions of money laundering.

‎Olukoyede stated: “I investigated this man (Pastor Jerry Eze) for six months for money laundering.”

‎He explained that the probe was triggered by large international wire transfers flowing into accounts linked to the pastor and his ministry from several countries, including the United States, Colombia, Sri Lanka, and Togo.

‎Such unusual cross-border financial flows raised red flags at the EFCC, prompting a thorough financial intelligence review and investigation into whether the funds could be proceeds of crime.

‎Olukoyede made the disclosure while addressing concerns about the source of wealth of some high-profile religious leaders in the country.

‎According to the EFCC boss, the commission thoroughly probed Pastor Jerry Eze, the founder of New Generation Prophetic Church and convener of the popular online prayer programme New Season, over allegations that large sums of money flowing into his accounts could be proceeds of money laundering.

‎Despite the seriousness of the suspicions, Olukoyede revealed that the extended investigation ultimately found no evidence of money laundering or any financial crimes.

‎He personally engaged with Pastor Jerry Eze during the process and was satisfied with the explanations and documentation provided regarding the sources of the funds.

‎The EFCC boss went further by publicly praising the pastor’s integrity and commending the work of the Jerry Eze Foundation, particularly its initiatives in awarding business grants to support young entrepreneurs and empower Nigerians.

‎He committed the EFCC to continued monitoring of high-value financial activities but made it clear that Pastor Eze had been cleared.
