ICPC Petitioned to Investigate Fed Poly Mubi Over Alleged Reckless Spendings

A petition has been submitted to the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) to investigate the governing council of the Federal Polytechnic Mubi, Adamawa State, over allegations of reckless spending and financial misconduct.

The petition, filed by human rights lawyer Mohammad Aliyu on behalf of Mubi concerned citizens, accuses the governing council of violating extant rules and regulations in managing the institution’s resources.

Specifically, the petition alleges that the polytechnic has spent over N100 million on protocol services within just two months of the council chairman and members taking over. If this trend continues without proper investigation, the council is projected to spend a staggering N600 million on protocol alone within 12 months.

The petition further notes that this alleged reckless spending is contrary to the provisions of the Public Procurement Act, 2007, and the Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Act, 2000. Aliyu has called on the ICPC to thoroughly investigate these allegations to ensure compliance with relevant laws and safeguard the institution’s resources.

In response to the allegations, the Joint Action Congress (JAC) of the Federal Polytechnic, Mubi, has dismissed the claims as baseless and lacking substance. The JAC described the petitioners as a “faceless group” and urged stakeholders and the public to disregard the petition.

The Federal Polytechnic, Mubi, is a reputable institution established in 1979, offering various undergraduate, diploma, and certificate courses. The institution has been accredited by the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) and recognized by the Federal Ministry of Education.
