Igbo must produce Nigeria’s president in 2023, Ohanaeze group insists

Pan-Igbo socio-cultural group, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, has insisted that the South-East must produce Nigeria’s next President in 2023.

The group, at the weekend, mandated its President, Prof George Obiozor, to ensure that the successor to President Muhammadu Buhari in 2023 comes from the region

Ohanaze gave the task to Obiozor during its Worldwide Elders Council meeting held at the Banquet the Imo State Government House at the weekend.

The communique issued by the Imo State Government, which disclosed the highlights of the meeting, read, “On the issue of security/insecurity which has become worrisome in the country, (the elders) agreed on the need for a strong security outfit that will address issues that are peculiar to the nature, culture, tradition, topography, etc of the people and also give support to efforts of the Federal Government of Nigeria.”

Regarding the economy of the South-East, the Ohanaeze elders stressed the need to further pursue and implement the Alaigbo Stabilisation Fund initiated by its immediate past President, Chief Nnia Nwodo. They, therefore, adopted the report of the Alaigbo Stabilisation Funds Steering Committee for the improvement and investment into the welfare and growth of Igbo land.

Concerning the 2023 presidential election and the need for a Nigerian president of Igbo extraction, the Ohanaeze elders “mandated the President General to work in close consultation with the Igbo socio-cultural and political intelligential to pursue the task of ensuring that the Igbo take their turn in producing the next President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria come 2023 General elections.”

But they agreed that Igbo Presidency could only become a reality only through consultation with other ethnic nationalities, urging every Igbo man or woman with the required capacity to indicate interest in the 2023 presidential race.
