Ighodalo Laments ‘Robbery’ in Edo Gubernatorial Election as Supreme Court Delivers Final Judgment

Asue Ighodalo, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) Candidate in the Edo State gubernatorial race, released a poignant final statement following the Supreme Court’s ruling on the September 2024 governorship election petition.

In his address, Ighodalo expressed deep disappointment, describing the election as a “robbery” and the court’s decision as a betrayal of the democratic process.

Ighodalo acknowledged the finality of the Supreme Court’s judgment but asserted that it did not equate to justice. He accused the election of being “coordinated, deliberate, and now tragically validated by the highest court in the land.” Despite his inability to challenge the ruling further, he vowed to continue speaking truth to power.

Addressing the people of Edo State, Ighodalo shared in their pain and anger, praising their courage and the collective strength forged during the campaign. He highlighted the birth of a new sense of unity among the state’s residents, despite the loss of the governorship.

“Though this painful chapter closes today, our beautiful story does not end,” he declared, promising an ongoing struggle to reclaim the state’s soul.

Warning of dark days ahead due to the perceived illegitimacy of the election, Ighodalo urged those now in power to lead with humility and govern with conscience. He concluded with a call for resilience, vowing that the people of Edo would not retreat, be silenced, or forget, and ended with blessings for Edo State and the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
