The panic aroused by the United States of America and other nations’ terror alert in Abuja was termed by the Inspector General of Police, Alkali Baba Usman, on Saturday as an unnecessary security alert with no purpose.
Usman said this at the dedication of an anti-bomb modern police station and barrack for officers and men of the Delta State Police Command at Ibusa, Oshimili North Local Government Area of Delta State.
Usman said it was only appropriate if there were security threats for the diplomats to inform the authorities rather than advising their citizens to flee.
He reassured Abuja residents of their safety by saying that security services were not dismissing the message and that an inquiry had been launched to stop any potential security danger in its tracks. He warned the media against acting as shills for the transmission of false information.
Usman gave the assurance that the force was taking the necessary steps to ensure the success of the general elections in 2023.
By God’s grace, our election will be credible, free, and fair, he declared. Our ballots will be counted, and the people we choose to lead us will do so.
Usman urged the Ibusa community to take ownership of the station and barrack by providing upkeep and security from vandals as one of the 120 new police stations being erected by the Federal Government throughout the nation.
Usman was thanked by the state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Ari Mohammed Ali, for creating a favorable work environment for police officers and men.
Ali pleaded with the Inspector General of Police to supply the Command with more reliable patrol cars, ammunition, and other supplies so that it could operate more effectively.
