Dr. Aliyu Idi Hong, former Minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, has expressed profound sorrow over the catastrophic flood that has wreaked havoc across communities in Yola South and Yola North Local Government Areas of Adamawa State. In a heartfelt sympathy message, Dr. Hong extended his condolences to the residents of Bole-Yolde Pate, Lakare, Shagari, Nyakore, Jambutu, and Rumde Baru, who are grappling with the devastating aftermath of the disaster.
The flood, triggered by heavy rainfall on Sunday, July 27, 2025, has caused widespread destruction, claiming lives, demolishing homes, and devastating farmlands, businesses, and infrastructure. The deluge has left hundreds displaced, with survivors facing immense physical, psychological, and economic hardship.
“I am deeply saddened to learn about the devastating flood disaster that has affected your communities,” Dr. Hong said in his statement. “The loss of lives, homes, livelihoods, and property is truly heart-wrenching. My heart goes out to each and every one of you who has been impacted by this calamity.”
Dr. Hong offered his sincerest condolences to the families of those who lost their lives, praying for the eternal rest of the departed. He also acknowledged the trauma and challenges faced by survivors, assuring them that they are not alone in their struggle. “I recognize the pain you are going through. The destruction of homes, businesses, and infrastructure can be overwhelming,” he noted.

Urging resilience and hope, Dr. Hong called on the government, humanitarian organizations, and well-meaning individuals to provide urgent support to alleviate the suffering of the affected communities.
He emphasized the importance of unity and solidarity, expressing hope that the disaster would strengthen the spirit of togetherness among the people of Yola as they work toward recovery.
“May this difficult time bring you closer together as a community, strengthen your spirit, resilience, and solidarity, and guide you through the recovery process,” Dr. Hong added. “May God provide you with comfort, peace, and hope for a brighter future.”
