The outgoing Director-General of the West African Gas Pipeline Authority (WAGPA) Mr. Debo-K’mba Barandao in a handing over ceremony of the leadership of the oil and Gas Company said is elated that the person taking over from him is a pioneer staff with so much experience.
Barabdao, a Togolaise who has handed over to Barrister Chafari Hanawa Kanya, a Nigeria in a valedictory note of handing over and taking ceremony held at the Conference Hall of the West African Pipeline Authority office in Maitama, Abuja said is proud of the in-coming DG because she has what it takes to grow up the multinational pipeline company.
While wishing the New DG successes as she takes over, the erstwhile DG said the Adamawa Born Lawyer has been part of the company since inception and knows the job very well, he called member staff to cooperate with her to carry WAGPA to an enviable stage.
With open arms of joy and love suggestive of unity in the organization, the staff also expressed their delight to have Barrister Hanawa as the new DG.
In her speech, Mrs. Hanawa appreciated Barandao for putting up more time and energy to grow up WAGPA to the present stage.
While thanking him, Safari the former DG has done many development services to the company and the entire staff will miss him.
She however said that we his doors should remain open for consultation as he goes on retirement because he is still part of the WAGP family as they will want to be tapping from the pool of his experience.
Ms. Hanawa Kanya who is from Garaha, Hong Local Government Area of Adamawa State attended Federal Government Girls College (FGGC) Gboko, Benue State, and holds a First Degree in Law from the University of Maiduguri.
After her first law degree, she was called to the Nigerian Bar after she attended Law School in Lagos. She also earned a Master’s Degree in Oil & Gas Law and Management from the Robert Gordon University (RGU) Aberdeen, the United Kingdom where she is currently pursuing her Ph.D.
Chafari will now control the affairs of WAGPA an International Regulatory Authority created by a Treaty with four heads of States to includes Nigeria, Benin, Togo, and Ghana as regulating countries members the operations of the trans-border natural gas pipeline known as the West African Gas Pipeline (WAGP) while WAGPA represents the governments of the four countries.
WAGP is a 678km West African Gas Pipeline system that links into the existing Escravos-Lagos pipeline at the Itoki Natural Gas Export Terminal in Ogun State, Nigeria. It proceeded to a compressor station near Badagry, Lagos from where it stretches offshore to Takoradi in Ghana.
The Natural gas produced in Nigeria is transported through the WAGP to the West African countries, and its mainline has Gas delivery laterals from the sea extending into Cotonou (Benin), Lome (Togo), Tema, and Takoradi (Ghana)
The New DG said that the WAGP pipeline is owned by NNPC, Chevron, Shell in Nigeria, Volta River Authority (VRA) in Ghana; Bengaz in Benin, and SOTOGaz in Togo. It has an installed capacity of 170MMscfd with two compressors and can be expanded to handle 474MMscd with additional compressors.
“The WAGP is operated by the West African Gas Pipeline Company (WAPCo) with its headquarters in Accra, Ghana, while WAGPA which is the Regulator is based in Abuja, Nigeria”. S
