President Bola Tinubu says his focus and thinking is not about his re-election in the 2027 general elections but the future of younger Nigerians and the country itself.
Tinubu stated this on Saturday at the 2024 South West Assembly of the All Progressives Congress held at the Eko Hotels, Victoria Island, Lagos.
He said he’s focused on how to better the current situation in the country and restructure the economy for the benefit of the people.
The President who was represented by his Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila, therefore, appealed to all Nigerians to exercise patience by giving his administration committed to the genuine progress of the populace, the benefit of doubt.
Tinubu stressed that his administration is committed to repositioning Nigeria and creating wealth for the current and coming generations for the sake of posterity.
Tinubu further stressed that for now, his focus was not on how he’ll be re-elected in 2027, but on how to take Nigeria to greater heights in all facets of development for even the generations yet unborn.
Chairman, South-West Governors’ Forum, who is also Lagos State Governor, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu, hosted the APC South-West Assembly. The meeting was attended by delegates from all the six South-West states.
Tinubu expressed pain and concerns at the current hardship being experienced by all Nigerians, assuring that the situation in the country would soon improve significantly.
He stressed said that his administration was compelled to take some tough decisions in the greater interest of the country and all citizens.
The President said, “For every moment in a country, a particular leader is produced for that time. This is the time to produce a leader that is courageous.
“The challenges of our country are diverse and immense.
“When a man has a strong conviction of what he is doing, he pursues it.”
Tinubu further expressed his love for all Nigerians, assuring that he would not stop listening to their yearnings and cries while striving to take steps to better their condition.
Speaking earlier, Governor Sanwo-Olu told delegates drawn from the six South-West states, “We have come as one big family to explore more ways to work together.
“It is to share ideas and agree on strategies to take South West to greater heights.
“We are blessed with assets and more positioned to move the country forward.”
He enjoined the APC leaders and other party stalwarts to give the Tinubu administration their total support to enable it to succeed in the arduous task of moving Nigeria forward.
“We should strive to forge ahead,” Sanwo-Olu added.
In his solidarity message on the occasion, Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa challenged the APC in the South-West on the integration of the people of the geo-political zone.
He also underscored the need for all APC members in the South-West states to give their total support to the President Bola Tinubu-led administration.
The Ondo Governor said that the integration of the people backed by strong encouragement for Agriculture would help the region to tackle the current problem of food security.
He added that integration of the people of the region had become imperative in view of the current situation in the country.
Towards this end, Governor Aiyedatiwa said that the youths of the region must also be meaningfully engaged and gainfully employed.
According to him, to achieve the desired integration of the South-West and provide employment for its teeming population, Agriculture must be largely encouraged in the region.
The Ondo Governor however urged APC members to see the total support for President Tinubu as a task that must be done.
Former Ekiti State governor, Dr Kayode Fayemi, who was the keynote speaker at the APC South-West Assembly, said that as Progressives, the party in the geo-political zone should strive to present a united front at all times.
According to Fayemi, “I am convinced that APC will remain strong to accomplish the business of the Renewed Hope Agenda of Mr President.
“APC remains the only successful party that emerged from the cohesiveness of four different political parties. That is history, we must continue to protect what makes us thick.
“Our congress should be regular, within specific time frame. Our party is the framework in which we thrive as the ruling party.”
The event was also attended by the Governors of Ekiti, Ondo and Ogun.
Other APC South-West Governors who attended the meeting include Dapo Abiodun (Ogun) and Abiodun Oyebanji (Ekiti).
Other dignitaries in attendance include Lagos Deputy Governor, Dr Obafemi Hamzat, former Ogun State governor, Chief Olusegun Osoba, Chief Bisi Akande, Akinwunmi Ambode, Dr Prince Tajudeen Olusi, Chief Niyi Adebayo, Dr Kayode Fayemi, Ambassador Sarafa Tunji-Ishola, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, Senator Opeyemi Bamidele, Chief Olusola Oke, Senator Musiliu Obanikoro, Ondo State Commissioner for Sports and Youth Development, Hon Saka Yusuf-Ogunleye and several others personalities.
APC Senators, members of the House of Representatives, House of Assembly members, State Commissioners and other top government officials from South West were also present at the Assembly.
