The National Road Transport Union of Nigeria (NURTW), the Nigerian Association of Road Transport Owners (NARTO), and the Maritime Workers’ Union of Nigeria (MWUN) have signed an agreement with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for efficient logistics deployment in the general elections of 2023.
Mahmood Yakubu, the chairman of the commission, stated in a speech on Tuesday in Abuja that INEC will require at least 100,000 cars, more than 4,000 boats, and gunboats for the transportation of personnel and supplies during the upcoming general elections.
The deal was signed within a month after the commission met in Lagos with the heads of the transport unions and the security officials.
The conference in Abuja was attended by the chairman of INEC, the leaders of several transport unions, and representatives from civil society organizations.
Yakubu ordered the carriers to maintain objectivity.
The agreement to provide transportation logistics for the general elections in 2023 was then signed on paper by the unions and the electoral umpire.
