The accident, which occurred on June 16, 2019, also claimed the life of a Chinese investor. According to the court, INEC’s driver, Hassan Abdul, was recklessly speeding when he crashed into the vehicle carrying Madu and the Chinese investor, resulting in their deaths. The police report confirmed that Abdul’s speeding was the cause of the accident.

The court’s ruling, delivered by Justice Inyang Ekwo, ordered INEC to pay the N1.12 billion with 10% annual interest until the full amount is settled, as well as issue a condolence letter to Madu’s family.

This decision comes after Madu’s brother filed a lawsuit against INEC, accusing the commission of negligence and failing to support the grieving family. The court upheld the claims, awarding the compensation to the family.
