INEC to Launch Online Voter Pre-Registration on August 18

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced that the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise will kick off with online pre-registration on August 18, 2025, followed by physical registration on August 25. The initiative is a key part of preparations for the Anambra State governorship election scheduled for November 8, 2025, and the 2027 general elections.

‎INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, disclosed this during a meeting with the National Orientation Agency (NOA), emphasizing the commission’s commitment to enhancing voter education and engagement. He highlighted the deepened collaboration with NOA to leverage grassroots sensitization, artificial intelligence (AI) tools, and innovative media platforms for effective public enlightenment.

‎“The nationwide continuous voter registration is scheduled to commence in about three weeks, with online pre-registration starting on August 18, followed by in-person registration on August 25,” Prof. Yakubu stated. He underscored NOA’s pivotal role in mobilizing voters, particularly women, youth, and persons with disabilities, to boost turnout.

‎Yakubu praised NOA’s nationwide presence and its innovative tools, including NOA TV, NOA Radio, and the AI-powered chatbot “CLHEEAN,” which have improved government-to-citizen engagement. “Your commitment to fostering AI-powered data management is a very good opportunity for targeted strategic communication,” he noted.

He also highlighted NOA’s inclusion in INEC’s Inter-agency Consultative Committee on Election Security to strengthen voter mobilization efforts.

‎NOA Director-General, Malam Lanre Issa-Onilu, outlined the agency’s transformation, including the creation of eight new programme departments, such as the Department of Civic Values and Democracy Education. “We have revamped our outreach strategy using traditional and digital tools, including weekly newsletters and AI-driven feedback mechanisms, supported by over 818 local offices,” he said.

‎The collaboration between INEC and NOA aims to ensure robust voter education and seamless preparations for the upcoming elections, with a focus on inclusivity and technological innovation.
