INEC to Release Candidate Nomination Portal Access Codes June 26

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced that it will issue access codes for its Candidate Nomination Portal on June 26, 2026, paving the way for political parties to begin uploading details of candidates for the 2027 general elections.

INEC Chairman, Joash Ojo Amupitan, disclosed this on Tuesday during a quarterly meeting with leaders of registered political parties in Abuja.

According to him, the release of the access codes follows the conclusion of party primaries on May 30, 2026. The codes will be provided to authorised national officers of political parties, who will be responsible for submitting candidates’ names, personal information and other required details through the commission’s automated nomination system.

Amupitan urged political parties to ensure that their information technology personnel and relevant officials are adequately prepared for the exercise, stressing that all submissions must be completed before the stipulated deadlines.

“On Friday, June 26, 2026, the commission will issue official access codes to all political parties for the purpose of accessing the Candidate Nomination Portal,” he said.

He explained that the portal would automatically shut down once the submission period expires, warning parties against waiting until the last minute to upload candidates’ information.

The INEC chairman also expressed concern over unresolved leadership disputes within some political parties, noting that ongoing court cases could distract from preparations for the 2027 elections. He called on political actors to resolve such disagreements promptly in the interest of the electoral process.

Reaffirming the commission’s neutrality, Amupitan assured stakeholders that INEC would continue to perform its responsibilities in accordance with constitutional provisions and without bias.

He further encouraged political parties to intensify voter education campaigns and mobilise eligible Nigerians to participate in the Continuous Voter Registration exercise and obtain their Permanent Voter Cards ahead of the polls.

According to him, the success of the 2027 general elections will depend not only on INEC’s readiness but also on the commitment of political parties to democratic values, transparent primaries, peaceful campaigns and strict adherence to electoral laws.

Amupitan added that the commission would ensure equal treatment for all political parties while continuing preparations for the elections despite pending appeals arising from two Federal High Court judgments affecting aspects of the electoral timetable. He maintained that all activities would proceed in line with lawful court directives and established regulations.
