The Federal Government has been encouraged by the Arewa Youth Vanguard to hire security specialists if it is to continue and ultimately win the battle against banditry and other types of insecurity in the nation.
Arewa Youth Vanguard, which also chastised Minister of Information Lai Mohammed for not informing Nigerians accurately about the country’s security status, particularly the continuing struggle against insecurity in the North, gave the recommendation.
The group said that the Minister of Information’s assertion was not only untrue but also a mockery of the Nigerian people, who they claimed deserved far more than what they were being given.
The group urged the Minister and leaders of the nation’s security agencies to convene experts for a round of discussion and develop a fresh strategy for tackling security issues.
In a recent joint news conference with security officials, information minister Lai Mohammed gave a hint that the country’s biggest security issues were behind it.
Mohammed observed that although the most populous black nation may not yet be there, the military and other security services have still significantly succeeded in controlling instability, even if there could still be isolated pockets of assaults around the country.
He equally said, “As far as the daunting security challenges we face are concerned, we can tell you that the worst is over. Never again will terrorists and bandits and their cohorts hold sway in our country”.
