Insecurity: NYSC Blacklists Three Kebbi LGAs, Relocates Orientation Camp

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has blacklisted three local government areas in Kebbi State from receiving corps members due to persistent security concerns, while also relocating its orientation camp to a safer location within the state.

The Kebbi State Coordinator of the NYSC, Bala Dabo Kagarko, disclosed this during an interaction with journalists at the temporary NYSC Orientation Camp in Basura, Jega Local Government Area.

According to him, corps members will no longer be posted to Augie, Arewa and Sakaba local government areas as part of measures to safeguard their lives and well-being.

“For the safety of corps members, we are not posting them to Augie, Arewa and Sakaba local government areas of the state again,” Kagarko stated.

He explained that the scheme had earlier requested the relocation of its orientation camp from Dakingari to the temporary facility in Basura, Jega Local Government Area, owing to the prevailing security challenges in parts of the state.

The state coordinator also expressed concern over the sharp decline in the number of corps members deployed to Kebbi State, warning that the development is negatively affecting critical sectors that rely on their services.

According to him, the shortage has created gaps in healthcare delivery, education and other essential services across the state.

“We no longer have doctors to post to state hospitals, and there are not enough corps members to deploy to schools and other areas where they are needed to contribute to development,” he said.

Kagarko further revealed that Kebbi currently receives the lowest number of corps members among all states in the federation, a situation he described as troubling.

He noted that several appeals had been made to relevant authorities to address the challenge but lamented that no response had been received so far.

The development underscores the growing impact of insecurity on public institutions and service delivery, particularly in states grappling with security threats that continue to affect the movement and deployment of personnel.

Despite the challenges, the NYSC said it remains committed to ensuring the safety of corps members while working with relevant stakeholders to sustain its operations and developmental contributions across Kebbi State.
