Int’l Youth Day: Amb. Ajine Delo Calls For Youth Engagement in govt

The Adamawa State chapter of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) has appealed to the state government to reawaken consciousness of the youth through entrepreneurship, skill acquisition and active engagement in decision making.

The state chairman of the NYCN made the call as youths in Adamawa State and Nigeria join their counterpart across the globe to mark 2021 International Youth Day with a theme “Transforming Food Systems: Youth Innovations For Human and Planetary Health”

As human population keeps surging over the years, revitalizing food system, youth innovations and human health has been identified as key elements in sustaining the ever increasing human population and sustaining life expectancy in years to come.

With the world population expected to increase by 2 billion people in the next 30 years according to the United Nations (UN), measures has to be taken to put in place innovations, health and food security to cater for humanity.

According to Adamawa state chairman of NYCN Ambassador Ajine Delo in an interview with TGnews noted that this can be achieved through youth empowerment and engagement. The role of the youth he maintain cannot be overemphasized stressing that the alarming rate of world population with the youth taking higher percentage, only the youths can make the needed change the society and the world look up to.

He observed that the current climate change the world is battling with, hunger especially in developing countries and the fear of emerging diseases, new innovations and strategy to tackle the menace becomes necessary noting that the potential of the youth is highly recommended to change the narrative and inject a new trajectory into the world system for more meaningful development and sustainability of human life.

He opine that it is high time Adamawa state government under leadership of the Governor Rt. Hon. Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri to reawaken youths consciousness who instead of using their energy, talent and knowledge to bring about development waste it on all manner of anti social activities.

Ambassador Delo maintained that more need to be done to engage the youths lamenting that thousands of them are graduates yearning for opportunity to showcase their talent and expertise for the overall development of the state. He appealed to the government to roll out programme and activities that will engaged and bring out the best in the youth through skill acquisition, sports and the likes.

While acknowledging the giant strides of the Governor in infrastructure development he expressed concerns that prices of goods and services especially food is fast becoming unbearable for the common man each passing day and appealed to the government to intervene by preferring solution that will go along way in addressing the challenge which which the theme of the International Youth Day seeks to achieve.

The state NYCN has lineup 4 days activities to mark the day which starts with visit to the hospital, Jumma’at prayer in mosques, fumigation exercise and church service while on 16th – 19th August a town hall meeting will be held in Ganye, Numan, Mubi and Yola zones.
