The International Press Centre (IPC) in collaboration with the International Freedom of Expression Exchange (IFEX) has organised a one-day webinar training for fifty (50) Journalists on safety, Security and Management of Trauma in Coverage of Dangerous Assignments.
Delivering his opening remarks during the zoom training Thursday, Executive Director of the Centre, Lanre Arogundade said, the workshop will enable journalists to manage difficult safety challenges faced while carrying out their professional calling.
“Participating Journalists are expected to be able to practice with increased confidence and manage dangerous situations effectively.
“The participants included; Journalists in the print, broadcast and online journalists and bloggers among whom will be those (Journalists) that were assaulted or harassed in different ways in the course of covering the current COVID-19 pandemic in Northern states.
“It will also help Practitioners build their technical and journalistic skills on essential of safety in investigative reporting, digital security and management of post-traumatic stress disorder,” Arogundade said.
He therefore urged the participants to be make sure that take-aways from the training would be shared among the larger strata of practising journalists in the country.
The Webinar which was streamed live for 3 hours via IPC’s Social Media Platforms where the 3 invited guest speakers dwelled assiduously on topics covering safety reporting, investigative coverage on dangerous bits as well as managing trauma and health challenges.
