IPOB insists on Referendum, rejects bill for the creation of Orlu State in South East

The Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, has rejected the bill proposing the creation of new states in the Southeast.

The bill seeking to create Orlu State from Imo, Abia, and Anambra passed its first reading in the House of Representatives on Thursday.

Emma Powerful, the IPOB spokesman Insisted that a referendum on exiting Nigeria is the only acceptable solution and not the formation of states.

IPOB stated that the creation of new states in Southeast will simply increase uncertainty in the region because the existing ones have not been adequately managed.

The statement adds, “We do not want more state in Igboland; creating more state in Igboland means increasing confusion and hatred among the Ndigbo.” Nigeria has not managed its existing states efficiently, and they now want to add to the complexity.

In response, Powerful stated that the formation of further states would result in increased chaos, hostility, and mismanagement. The expense of governance in Nigeria is rising on a daily basis;

the new state will undoubtedly not be as competently managed as others. “The majority of the country’s existing states are not viable, and they want to add to the confusion and troubles.

“The creation of more states is not our problem. All we want is a total referendum to determine whether the Ndigbo would like to remain in Nigeria or not. The Ndigbo want total freedom and that is what we insist on.”
