Iran Death Toll Climbs to 787 from U.S.-Israeli Airstrikes-IRCS Report

The Iranian Red Crescent Society has reported that the number of confirmed deaths from the wave of U.S. and Israeli airstrikes across Iran has reached 787, all Iranian nationals, as the conflict enters its fourth day.

The updated figure, cited by Iran’s Tasnim news agency and widely reported by international outlets including Al Jazeera, Anadolu Agency, and The New York Times, highlights the severe humanitarian impact of the military campaign that began on February 28, 2026.

The IRCS stated that search and rescue operations continue amid challenging conditions, with teams working to clear rubble, transport the injured, and provide emergency medical aid.

While the exact number of injured remains unconfirmed, officials warn that the casualty count could rise further as more areas are accessed.

The airstrikes have been extensive, with reports indicating 1,039 individual strikes recorded across 153 districts in Iran. At least 504 facilities  including logistical, military, and other sites have been damaged or destroyed, severely disrupting essential services and complicating aid delivery in affected regions.

The Iranian government has condemned the attacks as a “gross violation of sovereignty” and unprovoked aggression. U.S. and Israeli officials have described the operations as targeted against military infrastructure, strategic assets, and leadership elements, including the reported killing of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei in early strikes.

However, the scale of destruction in urban and civilian areas has prompted criticism from humanitarian observers over the effects on non-combatants.

The conflict has expanded regionally, with Iranian retaliatory missile strikes hitting targets in Israel and Gulf states, causing additional casualties, and Israel conducting operations against Iran-backed Hezbollah in Lebanon.

As smoke rises over cities like Tehran and international concern grows, fears of further escalation persist in what has become a major regional crisis. Rescue efforts remain ongoing, with the full extent of the devastation still emerging.
