……says Atiku has been robed into commissioning the project not because he believes it
An opposition Man who is a card-carrying member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) political party in Adamawa state, Alhaji Mustapha Umar Madawaki (Mukaddas) said the administration of Rt Hon Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri has gone off track in terms of policies implementation.
Umar said to state his views and position as a good citizen of the state and opposition Man who is at liberty to check mate the present government to do what Is being expected of them to do.
He described the two years scorecard of Ahmadu’s government to be anti-people with no human development projects to fulfill his campaign promises.
He said the Governor lacks good policies and vision to have ferried some Nigerian Governors, Minister to commission 2-3 kilometers roads in the state to celebrate his two years in office.
Umar said the hopes and expectations of Adamawa people have been dashed by Governor Ahmadu who they expected him to work well and be able to deliver Democratic dividends to the people of the state considering the huge resources made available to him from the statutory allocations, loans earmarked.
According to him, he can only celebrate the Governor’s doing well if the fly-over Bridges are being built from IGR, not loans collected.
“From the point of my opposition view, who I’m expected to serve as a check to this current administration, on that basis I will simply tell you that the Governor is doing a haphazard job, haphazard in the sense that is not the priority of the people of Adamawa state.
“This is the first time in the history of this country where a government will construct a 2, 3 kilometers road and asked another Governor or a minister to come and commission it. Is unheard of, he has spent billion of naira doing what is not the need of our people.” Umar said
He queried how the contracts in Adamawa were awarded, becoming the highest-paid contractors state with inflated prices in the country.
“How do you spent 1.3 billion to construct two kilometers road? What kind of arithmetic is that? Money is coming out from the treasury unchecked, unaccounted for, and this money belongs to the people and doesn’t belong to the Governor. He can’t spend it the way he wants it. People should talk for God’s sake.
“With the kind of funds that are being made available to the Governor in terms of statutory allocation, internally generated revenue (IGR) including the loans that are being collected here and there he should beat the imagination of many people in Nigeria by doing an excellent job. All I see is another way to believe what is not there.” He added
Madawaki who is aspiring to be the next Governor of Adamawa state come 2023 said the people of Adamawa must understand where this Governor is getting the funds from, if it is getting it from financial institutions as loans then the money should be diverted to projects that will benefit the common man, not gigantic projects that are wasteful.
Umar opined that Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, former Vice President of Nigeria was robed into the gimmicks of the present Government to commissioned a flyover Project still under construction.
“Imagine this project that has been commissioned today (Saturday), I’m sure Atiku Abubakar commissioned this project not because he believes the project but because as a leader he has been asked to do that. If he refuses it is a clear indication is drawing a line between him and the Governor.
“He has done that probably because it’s his party, he should not refuse to do it. In a way, he is been robed into it. How do you commission a bridge that is still under construction? How do you do that? People are still working on the bridge? And it has been commissioned? What kind of a thing is that?
“I don’t see it as anything tangible, the Governor is simply being deceitful, is simply being unpatriotic,” Umar said
While drawing his attention by a group of journalists who interviewed him in his Yola residence that the Governor in many occasions reiterated that the Flyovers projects will beautify, attract investors and ease traffic congestions in the state.
Umar responded that it is funny to say the beautification of the bridge attracts investors. “It’s funny. What is beautiful about the flyover? It is just cement, irons, and rods. There is nothing beautiful about this project.”
He continued to say that “Overhead bridges don’t reduce accidents, overhead bridges are meant to ease traffic not to reduce accidents. Some indices cause accidents, not bridges. “don’t we have accidents happen on top of the bridges? In Lagos, in other places, Trailers fall off on top of Bridges and kill people downstairs. So how has it helped in reducing accidents? He is just beating about the bush.”
” The issue of reducing traffic that is the only point that one could simply say yes to a certain extent it makes sense, but on the Governor own case, he worsens it. He has not even solved the traffic problems considering how the construction is done from the investment house to the junction at the Total filling station. I have not seen anything new or tangible about this government.
“Let me tell you this government’s so call agenda for the people of the state has not fully made the expectations of the electorates
” What I would want from this government is a radical change to emphasize human capital development, emphasize revamping of Education, Health and de-emphasis politicking which is what it seems to bother themselves with.
“The general perception of the Adamawa present Government is that they have performed poorly and I do not see any traces of improvement because time is not on their side, nothing tangible that can be done to ameliorate the lost opportunities and the expectations of Adamawa people.
“They performed below expectation, to me is a very big mistake for them to say they want to come back to power come 2023. Adamawa people have come of age, gone are days that people will do what they think they should.
“I have no problem if Adamawa Government will borrow a trillion naira to strengthen the revenue base, If they can pump it to the revenue base of the state, then one can say that the state government is having the capacity to pay these loans.
“But If they are taking this money because the election is by the corner as we heard they want to now start giving people SAs, or whatever it is, to me it’s criminal because they won’t be able to pay this money and the burden will be on the shoulders of whoever is coming in 2023.
“It’s criminally for him to get loans to pay political appointees or his SAs program as I heard because of 2023 election. I will criticize him with the last drop of my blood. I will be much comfortable if he channels or pump this 100 billion bond to appropriate quarters for the sole aim of the state’s revenue generation, this can be a welcome idea and I will support him.
“Else he is going to leave a legacy that our children will suffer from the debt crunch, already the state has been on debts adding this one to eat is like slavery.”
