The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) announced today that it has killed Ali Shadmani, described as Iran’s wartime Chief of Staff and the country’s senior-most military official, in a precision airstrike in central Tehran.
The IDF stated that Shadmani, a close advisor to Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, was targeted overnight based on precise intelligence, marking the second elimination of Iran’s top military commander in five days.
The strike, part of Israel’s ongoing “Operation Rising Lion,” targeted the Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters, where Shadmani oversaw Iran’s military strategy and combat operations.
The IDF claimed the assassination disrupts Iran’s chain of command amid escalating hostilities, with both nations trading missile strikes for a fifth consecutive day. Iran has not officially confirmed Shadmani’s death, though Iranian state media reported earlier strikes killed other senior commanders, including Hossein Salami and Gholam Ali Rashid.
The conflict, intensified by Israel’s attacks on Iran’s nuclear facilities and military infrastructure, has resulted in at least 224 deaths in Iran, mostly civilians, and 24 in Israel, according to reports. Iran retaliated with missile strikes on Israeli cities, including an attack on Mossad’s headquarters, as confirmed by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.
