The Gongola Peoples Forum (GPF), a prominent socio-cultural organization representing diverse ethnic groups in Adamawa State, has expressed profound sorrow over the devastating flood disaster that struck the state, particularly the Shagari Low-Cost Housing area, claiming lives and displacing countless families.
In a heartfelt press statement issued on Tuesday, signed by the National Chairman, Markus Natina Gundiri, and shared with TGNEWS, the GPF extended its condolences to the victims, their families, and the state government led by His Excellency, Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri.
The floods, which ravaged communities across Yola and surrounding areas, have left a trail of destruction, submerging homes, destroying livelihoods, and causing irreparable loss.
The Shagari Low-Cost Housing area, one of the hardest-hit zones, has become a focal point of grief, with families mourning the loss of loved ones and grappling with the aftermath of the disaster. The GPF described the incident as “unfortunate” and a stark reminder of the urgent need for collective action to support those affected.

“On behalf of all ethnic nationalities in Adamawa State, we extend our heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims and the entire state for this tragic loss,” Gundiri stated. “We are deeply saddened by the scale of devastation caused by the floods, and our hearts go out to those who have lost loved ones, homes, and means of sustenance.”
In a powerful show of solidarity, the GPF pledged its unwavering support to Governor Fintiri’s administration as it works to provide relief and restore normalcy to affected communities.
The organization called on all indigenes of Adamawa, as well as friends and well-wishers, to rally behind the state government during this critical time.

The GPF’s call for unity echoes recent appeals from other prominent figures in the state, including entrepreneur Muhammad Gidado Modibbo, who described the floods as “heartbreaking” and urged swift intervention from the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and humanitarian organizations.
The organization further commended Governor Fintiri’s proactive efforts in addressing the crisis and reaffirmed its commitment to supporting initiatives aimed at providing shelter, food, medical aid, and other essential relief to displaced families.

“We urge all our worthy sons and daughters, as well as our friends across Nigeria, to join hands with the government in providing succor to those affected,” Gundiri added.
“This is not a time for division but for compassion and collective action. Together, we can help rebuild the lives of those impacted by this disaster.”
The floods in Adamawa come amidst other challenges in the state, including recent communal clashes in Lamurde Local Government Area, which have further strained resources and heightened the need for coordinated responses.
The GPF emphasized the importance of long-term measures, such as flood-resilient infrastructure and community resilience programs, to prevent future disasters. For now, however, the immediate focus remains on supporting the victims and aiding their recovery.
The statement concluded with a prayer for the souls of the departed and a message of hope for the affected communities.
“May the families who have lost loved ones find strength to take solace in God, and may the affected communities be granted the resilience to rebuild in the face of this tragedy,” Gundiri said. “We wish all those impacted a speedy recovery and assure them that they are not alone in this difficult time.”
