The invasion is seen as a major escalation of the crisis in the Lagos State House of Assembly, which has been ongoing since the removal of the former Speaker, Mudashiru Obasa. The current Speaker, Mojisola Meranda, has been facing opposition from some lawmakers who are loyal to Obasa, and the DSS invasion is believed to be an attempt to intimidate her and undermine her authority.

Lawmakers have reacted with outrage to the invasion, with one of them, Hon. Abiodun Tobun, stating that “this is not a government ruled by the barrel of a gun. This is an aberration of democracy and a step toward anarchy. What happened today is a total embarrassment and an act of harassment”. The lawmakers have also passed a vote of confidence in the Speaker, Mojisola Meranda, expressing their satisfaction with her leadership and urging her to continue with her work.

The incident has sparked widespread condemnation, with many calling for an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the invasion. The Lagos State House of Assembly has urged the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, to investigate the incident and provide a comprehensive briefing on the findings. The incident is a major blow to democracy in Nigeria and has raised concerns about the role of security agencies in the country’s political process.
