Jubilation in Toungo as ALGON Chair Gangkuba Fulfills Scholarship Promise to Over 200 Students

Scenes of joy and celebration swept through Toungo Local Government Area (LGA) as Engineer Suleiman Ahmed Gangkuba, the Adamawa State Chairman of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) and Chairman of Toungo LGA, fulfilled his pledge to support tertiary institution students with a scholarship program.

Over 200 students, constituting the first batch of beneficiaries, each received N30,000 as part of Gangkuba’s pet project aimed at empowering the youth through education.

The scholarship disbursement, which took place on July 7, 2025, marks a significant milestone in Gangkuba’s commitment to uplifting the educational aspirations of Toungo’s indigent students. The initiative has been hailed as a beacon of hope for young scholars facing financial challenges in pursuing higher education.

Beneficiaries expressed gratitude, noting that the funds would alleviate burdens related to tuition, books, and other academic expenses.

“I am overwhelmed with joy,” said one of the beneficiaries. “This N30,000 will go a long way in helping me pay for my school fees and buy study materials. Chairman Gangkuba has shown that he truly cares for our future.”

The scholarship program comes on the heels of Gangkuba’s recent commissioning of several transformative projects in Toungo LGA, including a modern town hall, a primary healthcare center, and a police station. These initiatives underscore his administration’s focus on improving infrastructure, healthcare, security, and human capital development in the region.

Speaking at the scholarship award ceremony, Gangkuba reiterated his dedication to grassroots development and youth empowerment. “Education is the foundation of progress, and I am committed to ensuring that no deserving student in Toungo is left behind due to financial constraints,” he said. “This is just the first batch; we will continue to expand this program to reach more students in the future.”

The event was attended by community leaders, students, and parents, who commended Gangkuba’s leadership and vision. Alhaji Yahaya Musa, the District Head of Kiri, described the scholarship as “a game-changer for our youth,” urging other local government leaders to emulate Gangkuba’s example.
