June 12 Protest Begins in Abuja Amid Heavy Security Deployment as Nigerians Demand Change

The planned protest against rising hardship and insecurity commenced today, June 12, in the Federal Capital Territory, despite a heavy deployment of security personnel across the city.

The demonstration, which coincides with Nigeria’s Democracy Day celebrations, began in the Apo area of Abuja, where protesters gathered, waving placards and chanting solidarity songs.

Security agencies had earlier deployed heavily armed personnel to strategic locations, including major junctions and the National Assembly, in anticipation of potential disruptions.

The protesters, however, defied the tight security measures, voicing their grievances against the current economic and security challenges facing the nation.

The protest marks a significant moment, as Nigerians take to the streets to demand change and better governance on a day meant to celebrate the country’s democracy.
