Just in: Buhari directs Emefiele, other appointees contesting election to resign

President Muhammadu Buhari has directed all heads of agencies, departments, parastatals, and ambassadors vying for elective positions in the 2023 general elections to resign.

The president had earlier on Wednesday, issued the same directive to his ministers contesting for elections.

A circular obtained Thursday morning, showed that the office of the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele, was among the agencies copied.

The circular was signed by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha, with reference number SGF/OP/ I/S.3/XII/ 173, and titled ‘Ministers, heads of government agencies, ambassadors and other appointees with political ambitions to resign’.

Recall that Buhari on Wednesday during the weekly Federal Executive Council meeting had asked his ministers aspiring for elective position in the 2023 general elections to resign on or before Monday, May 16.
