A devastating accident has claimed the life of a prospective Corps member, who was on her way to the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) orientation camp in Afikpo, Ebonyi State. The deceased, a member of the 2024 Batch C Stream 11, was among a group of 12 prospective corps members who boarded a 14-seater bus in Enugu, heading to the NYSC camp. Unfortunately, the bus collided with a truck by the roadside, resulting in the loss of one precious life.

The accident occurred on January 22nd at around 14:00 hours on the Amasiri-Okigwe route, specifically at Amenu village in Okposi

According to Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Ebonyi, Mr. Igwe Henry, the accident occurred on January 22nd at around 14:00 hours on the Amasiri-Okigwe route, specifically at Amenu village in Okposi. Preliminary findings suggest that excessive speed on the part of the commercial bus may have caused the crash. The victims were rescued by bystanders and taken to King David Umahi Federal University of Health Sciences (DUFUHS) for treatment.

The Ebonyi State Coordinator of NYSC, Foluke Oladeinde, visited the injured prospective corps members at the hospital, but was too distraught to speak to journalists. The incident has sent shockwaves through the community, and our thoughts are with the family and friends of the deceased.
