Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang has firmly denied rumors of his defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC), stating that Plateau State remains a PDP stronghold.
This statement comes amid a wave of defections from the PDP, including those of Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and Akwa Ibom State Governor Umo Eno, who both joined the APC with their state party structures.
During a media chat, Mutfwang explained that he wouldn’t betray the people and party that supported him, citing his experience in the 2015 governorship election where he won despite being just a local government chairman. “I haven’t had that conversation [of leaving PDP for APC] with anyone. The media has speculated a lot, but nothing has happened,” he said.

Mutfwang emphasized that the APC has never truly existed in Plateau State, claiming they have been in government through fraudulent means for the past eight years.
He expressed optimism that the PDP’s internal issues would soon, saying, “I remain so. And I’m very optimistic that very soon, the PDP crisis will be a thing of the past.”

Mutfwang reaffirmed his commitment to the PDP, stating, “My political future is in God’s hands, not APC.”
He added that Plateau State’s people have always stood with the PDP, and he would go wherever they go. This stance is seen as a strong rebuke to those calling for his defection
