The Managing Director Kaduna Bureau for Substance Abuse Prevention and Treatment (KADBUSA) on Saturday task Kaduna Schools to set Drug Free Clubs to curb the menace of dugs abuse amongst Secondary School Students
Dr. Joseph Maigari who spoke at the Kaduna State one day Inter School Quiz Competition organized by New Day Empowerment and Development Foundation maintained that Drugs Free Club is just like Press Club and Jet Club in the secondary Schools. The schools that are interested in setting up such clubs can write KADBUSA or contact New Day Empowerment and Development Foundation since they are already reaching out to Schools about protecting the younger generation from substance abuses. “The bureau will take charge of sending personnel who are rooted in the aspects to setup such Clubs and follow up.” He maintained.
Dr. Maigari revealed that, drugs like codine and others are extremely dangerous to the brain leading to medical challenges. He warned that students must learn to say no to peer group influences on smoking and other abuses.
Earlier the the Director General of New Day Empowerment and Development Foundation Mrs Grace Jessica Daniels stated that the objective for the Kaduna State Inter School Quiz Competition is to drive awareness against Drug Abuse and rewakened a life style of competitive academics activities.
Mrs Daniels who hailed the management of Kaduna State University and Kaduna Ministry of Education for supporting the program commended the Commitment of Kaduna Bureau for Substance Abuse Prevention and Treatment (KADBUSA) in combating the menace of substance abuses in Kaduna.
Mrs Daniels also commended the role of Kaduna Journalists in propagating drugs free community stressing that the media will continually be looked upon for effective campaign against drugs abuse.
At the end of the one Day Kaduna State Inter Schools Quiz Competition Excel Universal Model Secondary School,
Al_Aleem Academy and Our Saviour International School were outstanding.
Some of the participants in the quiz competition Hepzibah Dennis, Nafisat Abubakar and Kalmcy Okechukwu expressed joy in the competition stressing it was really great competing against their classmates from other schools.
