In a move aimed at promoting girls’ education, the Kaduna state government has announced plans to pay exam fees for girls from low-income backgrounds. This decision was made public during an advocacy visit by Global Peace Foundation Nigeria in partnership with Back to School Initiative.
According to Prof. Usman Abubakar Zaria, Director General of the Kaduna State Schools Quality Assurance Authority, the state government is committed to enhancing education, which will, in turn, reduce social vices. Last year, the government paid Junior WAEC examination fees for 136,000 students, and this year, 173,000 junior students will benefit from this policy.
The government has also initiated policies to remove bottlenecks and revamp education in the state.
Rev. John Joseph Hayab, Country Director of Global Peace Foundation Nigeria, expressed his organization’s commitment to enhancing quality education, especially for children from low-income backgrounds.

Hayab emphasized the need for the state government to extend its support to Senior Secondary students from low-income backgrounds, enabling them to write their final exams.
He noted that many students who could have completed their secondary education were unable to do so, highlighting the need for civil society to advocate for government support.
