Youths in Pero Community in Shongom local government area of Gombe state, have expressed dissatisfaction with the leadership style of Hon. Simon Karu, member representing Kaltungo/Shongom Federal constituency for not keeping to his promises and demanded for the immediate recall of the legislator.
The agrived youths who spoke to our Correspondent said they were part of the supposed beneficiaries of Hon. Simon Karu’s Youths Empowerment program initiated last year, but to their greatest surprise the scheme turned out to be the usual political tricks.
One of the beneficiary who spoke on the grounds of anonymity, said he was disappointed that uptil date the member has not kept to his promises of supplying salon sets to the beneficiaries of the empowerment program.
” When we were selected as beneficiaries of the empowerment program we were asked to assembled at Kaltungo LGA for a two days training after which we were promised sets of saloon equipments and a generator sets, after the training we were also asked to travel to Tula, home town of Hon.Simon Karu to collect the equipments, but on getting there we were told that our equipments are yet to be supplied and they said they will get back to us.
“All these processes we used our hard earned money for transportation no body gave us money for transportation, even though we were told that we will be given stipends but the money was siphoned by Hon.Simon Karu Administrative Aids”. He alleged.
“The beneficiary further revealed that he and his colleagues they have made several phone calls to the Administrative Aids but they have been ignored.
” At first, when we were selected we felt happy because we thought the Youthful legislator understand the plight of the youths and that he will be different from other politicians who usually promised and fail.
“To our greatest dismay, Hon. Simon Karu is not different from other politicians, he has dashed our hope for supporting a Youthful legislator, therefore, we demand his immediate recall from the Federal House of Representatives”. He lamented.
Also In an interview with another beneficiary, who also spoke on the grounds of anonymity said she has left everything to God as it is only God that can repay her for what she had lost during the period of the training.
” I was eight months pregnant when i was selected for the empowerment program and i participated in all the processes hoping that my stress will be paid off, when i receives my Saloon equipments, i my intention was to establish more shops and admit more apprentices to learn hairdressing but to my greatest surprise all these efforts was to no avail, but all i know is that, they will reap what they have sowed” She narrated.
Also, in a response to the demands of the beneficiaries, Mr. Suleman Haruna KO, Aid to Hon. Simon Karu said the delay in supply of the equipments were as a result of the lockdown occasioned by the Coronavirus Pandemic.
He assured that the equipments will soon be supplied and will be distributed to the beneficiaries as promised.
It would be recalled that Hon.
Simon Karu on 16th October 2020, intiated a youth empowerment program to train and equip selected number of youths in each community under his Constituency but uptil date the equipments have not been supplied to them.
