Kano Women Group Blasts Naja’atu Over TikTok Video: Leave Ribadu Alone, Your Character Made You Divorced 7 Times

A Kano-based women group, Kanawa Women Forum for Development (KWFD), has slammed Hajiya Naja’atu Mohammad, a Police Service Commission member, for attacking National Security Adviser, Malam Nuhu Ribadu, in a recent TikTok video. The group claims that Naja’atu has no moral right to speak against Ribadu, who has worked to secure the north and its people from bandits and insurgents.

The controversy began when Naja’atu alleged that Ribadu, during his tenure as EFCC chairman, accused President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Senators George Akume and Orji Uzor Kalu, of being among the most corrupt governors in Nigeria. The KWFD has given Naja’atu a 7-day ultimatum to apologize for her comments on TikTok.

In a statement, the group’s leader, Hajiya Amina Musa Lawan, pointed out that Naja’atu’s past is marred by controversy, including her marriage to one of the men involved in the killing of her first husband, Dr. Bala Muhammad, a political adviser to late Kano Governor Rimi. The statement also accused Naja’atu of befriending the wife of late dictator General Sani Abacha and benefiting financially from the regime.

Naja’atu has a history of blackmailing successive Kano state governors

According to the KWFD, Naja’atu’s history of controversy dates back to the 1980s, when her first husband, Dr. Bala Muhammad, was killed in Kano by members of a faction of his party. Naja’atu subsequently married one of the men involved in her husband’s killing, a move that was widely criticized by many in Kano.

The group also alleged that Naja’atu has a history of blackmailing successive Kano state governors, including Shekarau, and attacking those who refuse to grant her favors. The KWFD’s statement claimed that Naja’atu brought a Chinese company to Governor Shekarau and demanded that billions of naira in contracts be awarded to her. When Shekarau declined, Naja’atu allegedly started a campaign against him and eventually left Kano.

Furthermore, the KWFD accused Naja’atu of praising President Buhari and seeking to be appointed as a minister by him. When Buhari refused and instead appointed her as the chairperson of the Federal University, Dutse, Jigawa State, Naja’atu allegedly started attacking him.
