Kogi State University Lecturer Dies in Hotel During Sexual Encounter with Student

‎A senior lecturer at Kogi State University, Anyigba, Dr. Olabode Abimbola Ibikunle, met a tragic end on Tuesday, July 15, 2025, collapsing and dying during a sexual encounter with a 22-year-old 200-level student in a local hotel. The incident, which has sent shockwaves through the university community, was reported to the Anyigba Police Division the following day, leading to the swift arrest of the student involved.

‎Dr. Ibikunle, a married man with children, was allegedly notorious for exploiting female students sexually in exchange for grades, a reputation that has now cast a dark shadow over his legacy.

Sources revealed that the lecturer, known for his strict demeanor, had checked into the hotel with Gloria Samuel, a second-year Social Studies Education student, on the day of the incident.

Reports suggest he consumed multiple energy drinks, presumably to prepare for the encounter, before collapsing during the act.

‎The hotel manager, Moses Friday, alerted authorities after Samuel rushed to the reception in distress, reporting that the lecturer had slumped. Police, led by the Divisional Police Officer, responded promptly, rushing Dr. Ibikunle to a hospital, where a doctor confirmed his death.

‎SP William Ovye Aya, spokesperson for the Kogi State Police Command, described the incident as “unfortunate” in a statement to news men on Friday.

He confirmed that Samuel has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation and possible prosecution. An autopsy has been conducted, though results are yet to be disclosed.

‎The incident has sparked outrage and renewed calls for accountability within academic institutions, with many questioning the systemic issues that enable such predatory behavior.
