His Royal Highness, the Lamido Adamawa, Dr. Muhammadu Barkindo Aliyu Musdafa, has extended a royal welcome to the newly appointed Chairman of the Board of Modibbo Adama University Teaching Hospital (MAUTH), Yola, Alhaji Bashir Usman Gumel.
The monarch, while receiving the delegation at his palace, commended the Chief Medical Director (CMD) of MAUTH, Professor Adamu Girei Bakari, for what he described as a remarkable transformation of the hospital under his leadership.
The Lamido hailed Prof. Bakari as an exemplary leader and urged both the Board Chairman and the CMD to prioritize teamwork and cooperation to elevate the institution to greater heights.
Alhaji Bashir Usman Gumel, who also serves as the National Financial Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), expressed his deep gratitude for the warm reception. He noted that the visit was to seek royal blessings and reaffirm his commitment to service. Gumel pledged to work collaboratively with the hospital management to fulfill MAUTH’s mission and ensure completion of ongoing projects.

A native of Gumel in Jigawa State, Alhaji Gumel brings a wealth of experience from the banking sector and public service. Known for his integrity, dedication, and financial acumen, he has earned respect both in politics and in national development initiatives.
His appointment is seen as a strategic move that reflects confidence from key stakeholders, including his political mentor, the former Governor of Jigawa State, and the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. Demonstrating humility and respect, Gumel presented his appointment letter to his mentor-father before assuming duties, earning prayers for both his success and the growth of MAUTH.
Following the royal visit, the Board Chairman was received at the hospital by Prof. Bakari and the management team. He was briefed on the hospital’s operations and taken on a tour of the facility. Impressed by the cleanliness and quality of services, Gumel lauded the CMD and staff for maintaining high standards.

Thanking the President for the appointment, Gumel assured that his leadership will be focused on accelerating the completion of outstanding projects and equipping the hospital with necessary infrastructure to meet the needs of patients and staff alike.
