Lassa Fever Kills 12, 112 People Affected in Ondo State

Lassa fever has taken a devastating toll on Ondo State, claiming 12 lives and confirming 112 cases, with a staggering 353 reported infections. The state government has sounded the alarm, urging collaboration with health stakeholders to improve sanitation and curb the spread of the disease.

According to the Acting Statistician-General, Olusola Ajayi, it’s crucial to work together to prevent further outbreaks. Meanwhile, Dr. Adeniran Ikuomola, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Health, revealed that nearly 400 suspected cases have been recorded, highlighting the need for swift action.

To combat the disease, the Federal Government, NCDC, and Institute of Human Virology Nigeria have joined forces to set up a Lassa fever diagnostic centre in Akure, enhancing detection and treatment capabilities.

Authorities are pulling out all the stops to reduce fatalities and improve case management, with increased surveillance and healthcare interventions underway. The NCDC has also been working tirelessly to co-design workshops and implement key recommendations to tackle the outbreak, as seen in their recent efforts in Bauchi and Ondo States.
