The Lagos State University (LASU) has dismissed two senior lecturers, including Professor Olatunji Abanikanda, over allegations of gross misconduct, including sexual harassment and financial impropriety.
According to a statement signed by the Registrar and Secretary to Council, Emmanuel Fanu, the lecturers were found guilty of inhumane treatment of students, sexual harassment, and financial impropriety.
Abanikanda, the former Dean of the School of Agriculture, Epe Campus, was accused of subjecting students to degrading and inhumane treatment, sexual harassment, and unauthorized collection of money from staff and students.
The other lecturer, Dr. Khadeejah Kareem-Ibraheem, was dismissed for alleged dereliction of duty and failure to remit proceeds from the sale of farm produce amounting to over ₦10.6 million to the university’s coffers.
The university management has reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining the integrity of academic and administrative standards.
This decision comes after students and the Take-It-Back (TIB) Movement raised concerns about the harsh conditions students were subjected to while living and working on the farm.
The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) had also condemned Abanikanda’s actions, describing his leadership style as “unprofessional and inhumane.”
