Leadership Newspaper Honours Zamfara Governor Dauda Lawal as Governor of the Year 2025

Zamfara State Governor Dauda Lawal was on Thursday recognised for his outstanding governance, receiving the prestigious Governor of the Year 2025 award from Leadership Newspaper at its annual conference and awards ceremony in Abuja.

The event, held at the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre, celebrated exemplary leadership and contributions to national development. Governor Lawal was honoured for his transformational leadership, particularly his unwavering commitment to restoring security, massive investments in education, healthcare, and infrastructure, and repositioning Zamfara State on the path of peace, progress, and sustainable development.

In a statement, the newspaper highlighted Governor Lawal’s courageous leadership and transformative initiatives that have renewed hope in the state after years of insecurity challenges.

The ceremony also featured high-profile attendees and honourees. Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, was named Person of the Year 2025 and attended the event to receive her award.

UN Deputy Secretary-General Amina Mohammed delivered the keynote address, speaking on the theme: “Political stability and sustainable development in Africa in an increasingly unstable global system: A roadmap for Nigeria.” She emphasised the need for political will among African governments to drive sustainable progress amid global challenges.

Governor Lawal, in response to the honour, reiterated his administration’s dedication to delivering visible progress and restoring public confidence in governance across Zamfara State.

This recognition follows other recent accolades for the governor, including The Sun Newspaper’s Governor of the Year award last month and Zamfara State’s emergence as the best in the North-West for primary healthcare delivery.

The Leadership Annual Conference and Awards continues to serve as a key platform for discourse on good governance, credible elections, and sustainable development in Nigeria.
