Adamawa state Governor, Sen Mohammed Umar Jibrilla Bindow, has reiterated government’s commitment at ensuring that every citizen of the state is allowed his or her religious freedom and ethnic rights.
The governor stated this while speaking at the second Kano state Inter Faith Community Relations Conference, organized by office of the Special Adviser on Religious Affairs in Kano.
He explained that leaders have the moral obligation to ensure that everyone exercises his rights, including that of religion and urged all leaders to lead by example.
Sen Jibrilla noted that if the adherents of the two religions would live by the dictates of their Holy Books, peace and tolerance would prevail in the society.
He described Adamawa state as having equal number of Christians and Moslems, whose leaders should lead bearing in mind that they will give account of their stewardship on the day of judgement, pointing out that justice should be the hallmark of every leader.
In his remark, Kano state Governor, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, said the objective of the conference was to streghten the cordial relationship that exists among adherents of the two religions in Kano state.
He advocated for the removal of indegeneship from the constitution saying that anyone, irrespective of religion and ethnic background, who contributed to the socio-economic growth of the state has the right to be an indegene of the state.
While stressing that Kano state government frowns at extremism, Gov Ganduje described as unacceptable the use of religion to forment trouble, with the consequence of destroying the prevailing atmosphere of harmony in the state.
